Country artists are known for their charity work. But even in a genre known for generosity, Zac Brown stands out. He is the CEO of a non-profit he’s founded called “Camp Southern Ground“. Of all the business ventures in his life—he says he runs 12 different companies, including his musical career-—there is none he is more committed to or proud of.
According to TheBoot.com, “Camp Southern Ground” will be a place for underprivileged kids with developmental disorders. He says he dreamed of starting something like it for years, after working as a counselor at a similar camp when he was a teenager. “I realized the difference it can make in a kid’s life.”
The camp is more than just a place in the woods where kids can swim, hike and do crafts. It also has an organic farm—something inspired by Zac’s love of cooking. “The kids will be able to eat what they pull up from the ground that day. “ Zac tells The Boot.
Zac says Southern Ground will start accepting campers in 2014 but between now and then, will be accepting donations and financial support from anyone and everyone. “We need as much help as we can get. We need Corporate sponsors, individuals…” No doubt he’ll get them. After all, even though he sings about soaking one’s toes in the water, it’s obvious he’s not the kind of guy to indulge in that very often.
