Wait… was that Kenny Chesney getting kicked out of… a Kenny Chesney show? No. But you can’t blame some in the crowd for doing a double-take.
The man escorted from LP Field in Nashville Saturday night during the Tim McGraw / Kenny Chesney Brothers In the Sun tour was Nathan Blankenship. And if you don’t stare too long, you could be forgiven if you were looking at Kenny. Nathan rocks the bald head, sleeveless t-shirt, straw cowboy hat and wrap-around shades just about like Kenny does, but Nathan is a school teacher and high school swim coach.
So why’d he get kicked out? Nathan wasn’t sure. He said security came up to him halfway through the show and told him he was being a disruption, but he insists he was just enjoying the show. Witnesses said he wasn’t doing anything to draw attention to himself, other than to resemble the guy 40,000 people had come to see.
Ironically, being escorted up the stadium steps by security drew a lot of mistaken attention, and fans thought it was the real Kenny (Tim was onstage at the time) being brought through the crowd. Nathan said the whole experience was surreal, and he that he wasn’t even offered a refund on his ticket, which he paid $200 for.
As it turns out, though, things are now starting to go Nathan’s way. Yesterday, Kenny’s label, Sony Nashville, issued a formal apology and sent him a gift basket. They also said they are refunding him the cost of his ticket. Not bad, but you have to wonder if maybe there’s plane ticket and a couple backstage passes to a future Brothers in the Sun show in that gift basket.
