For the first time in 18 years there will be no possums dropping in Brasstown North Carolina.

Say what?

Just as Times Square has it’s ball drop on New Year’s Eve, Clay’s Corner convenience store hosts an annual “Possum Drop.” And it’s exactly what it sounds like: at midnight, a live possum in a box is lowered to the ground as the countdown to the new year begins. When the box reaches the ground, the possum is set free.

So what’s the problem? A judge has ruled that a live wild animal cannot be used for such an activity, which led Pat and Tom to call Clay’s Corner and find out more…
