“The Hobbit” is breaking records at theaters in the U.S. and Canada. The film won the weekend box office race with an estimated take of 84-point-seven million dollars, an all-time record for a December release. “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is the first of three films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel.
