Anyone with any knowledge of the surf culture knows that Mavericks is one of the ultimate surfing tests in the world. For those who don’t know, Mavericks is a spot just north of Half Moon Bay that gets some of the largest surf breaks in the world, if conditions are right. Wave heights can reach 80 feet and 25 foot breakers are the norm. They are not child’s play; men have died trying to ride them.

Growing up a surfer in Southern California, country singer Gary Allan is aware of Mavericks. There was even a time when the “Every Storm Runs Out of Rain” singer thought he could ride them. Does he still? And is it true he missed part of his high school graduation because of tasty surf conditions off the Southern California coast?

Pat, Tom and Julie talked to Gary just before his performance at KNCI’s Girls Night Out about those subjects, as well as what it’s like to write with women for the first time, and more.
