Little Big Town Elaborate on New Song, New Album, and Dodging Cops

If you missed Little Big Town’s appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Monday, you missed them playing a game called Stranger Strings, in which everybody revealed something you might not have known about them. Like, Jimmy was a statewide male model champ in high school, Kimberly can count to 10 in Korean, Phillip does a mean Michael McDonald impression, or that Karen once turned down a dirt road to ditch a cop…while her mom was riding in the passenger seat.

The four called us the following morning and we had to get more details from Karen.

“Yeah, I have a little bit of a spunky side to me,” she elaborated. “I was speeding and I distinctly remember he (the police officer) came over this hill and I thought, ‘oh, I’m just gonna duck this little road and he won’t find me’–My God I can’t believe I did that! And my mom was in the car and she’s going ‘Karen Renee Fairchild, stop doing that!’ And I’m going –‘Quiet! For one minute!’ Yeah, I know…that was not good of me but, it’s the truth.”

Little Big Town’s latest song, Better Man, is currently rocketing up the charts–it’s the fastest climbing single of their career and by now, most people know it was written by Taylor Swift. Since Taylor is no slouch in the singing department, how did LBT come to record it? Pretty simple, Karen said.

“She sent it to us one night in an e-mail and just said ‘I know you guys are making a record’ and, I love this song and thought of you’.”

That record they’re making is called The Breaker, their first new album since a digital release of a project they recorded with Pharrell.  It is set to be released February 24th, the same time they start a short residency at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. To hear them talk about all that, and to get an idea of what Kimberly is cooking up for Thanksgiving, just click below. And to see their appearance on the Tonight Show, just click below that!
