As of Wednesday morning, I-80 is closed through the Sierra because of white out conditions (and a blizzard warning is in place til 10am). 50 re-opened but chains are required. CBS13 reported that a small tornado touched down in Natomas shortly after 4am! It was described as an EF0 (an EF5 would be really, really bad) but a fence and a tree near Rio Tierra Avenue were damaged. And as of about 7 this morning, a levee break along the Mokulmne River was reported near the town of Thornton. You can get updated information from CBS13 by clicking here
In addition, several area creeks and streams are near, at or above flood stage, and the national weather service has issued flood warnings til 2:45 tomorrow (January 12) for the Cosumnes River at Michigan Bar and the aforementioned Mokulmne River.
The Cosumnes in particular is posing enough of a threat that a voluntary evacuation is underway for residents of Wilton. There are also voluntary evacuations for parts of Rio Linda as well.
