He had just recorded a song about chicken and cornbread, so Alan Jackson decided to pass on “Chicken Fried”…and I bet Zac Brown Band isn’t too upset about that.
Who else ended up passing on a song that turned out to be a big hit? Welp, The Boot shares 20 examples including:
“T-Shirt” – The Thomas Rhett track was actually Tim McGraw’s for a long time, but when he decided to let it go, Thomas quickly snatched it up.
“Jesus Take The Wheel” – This one was written for Sara Evans, who apparently did not like it at all. As you know, it went to Carrie Underwood and helped solidify her spot in country music.
“Better Dig Two” – Okay, this one I am torn on. I love The Band Perry’s version, but now that I know Lady Antebellum had the chance to record it, I can’t help but wonder what might have been!
“Big Green Tractor” – I hope Jason Aldean sent Jake Owen some whisky or, at the very least, a nice meat and cheese platter for passing on this one.
