A couple songs into his show at Golden 1 Center, Eric Church brought out the choir from Del Campo High School to help him on the song “Mistress Named Music”, from his Outsiders LP.
Eric’s been recruiting high school choirs in each city on his tour, in part to support and promote music in schools. We talked to Del Campo’s choir director, Pam Mitchell, to find out what the experience was like.
“It was awesome!” She said. She told us she only got word from Church’s people on Tuesday–two days before the show but she said they learned their part quickly. “They’re good” she said of her students.
How did Church’s people find them? “Google!” She said she got the call and, not being much of a country music fan, she had no idea who Eric was. “Most of the students did, though. A couple of them even had tickets to the show.”
Other than the kids who were already going, did the rest of the choir get to stay? Sadly, no, there weren’t enough tickets! But Mitchell said they had a blast, and now that she’s met him, she might even give this Eric Church guy a listen.
