Happy National Beer Day. Celebrate Locally!

If you’re like us, you’re excited about Sacramento’s craft beer scene. No longer just a quirky trend among a few midtown hipsters, craft beer has (and continues to) expand throughout the region, sometimes gaining national recognition in the process, as Auburn’s Moonraker recently did recently when not only did their Extremis triple IPA beat out the legendary Pliny the Younger at a prestigious Bay Area tasting event, but they were also named the 9th Best Brewery In The World by RateBeer.com.

Here at KNCI, we have quite a few staffers who enjoy local product. We hit up a few of them for suggestions on what they like to sip on a weekend afternoon.

Pat Still, Morning Dude

Hoppy Brewing Amber Ale. “It’s like me, slightly bitter! No, seriously, it doesn’t have much aftertaste but still has a bit of a bite to it. I don’t know, I’m not good at beer terms. I just know I like it.”

Jason Ornellas, Director of Engineering

Track 7, Panic. “This IPA is everything.”

Highwater Brewing Campfire Stout. “It’s their number one pour, and I fell in love with it at a beer festival. I love the marshmellow aftertaste.”

“I love Sierra Nevada pale ale…it never disappoints. But if I’m going really local, Jackrabbit Brewing’s Oatmeal Stout has a great taste but doesn’t sit heavy. Nobody does stouts like they do.”

Chad Skinner, KNCI Promotions Director

Knee Deep Hoptologist. For a double IPA with 9% ABV (alcohol by volume) it has a very smooth, clean taste. I have to remember to be careful because it packs a punch!”

Jenna Rae, KNCI Middays

Bike Dog Milk Stout. “It’s a good sipping beer if you’re not trying to get drunk. But if you are, it’s good for that too. Just make sure you have a safe ride home!”

Bobby Solorio, KNCI Promotions Assistant

Ruhstaller Test IPA. “This is sort of a cheat because it’s actually several beers; Ruhstaller releases a different version of this beer throughout the year. It’s the same beer, but slightly altered depending on the season. Each version is perfect!”

Heretic, Evil Cousin. “I have become a huge fan of huge hops, and my current go-to is this imperial IPA,which is one of the hugest and hoppiest. And yet, it’s got more bite than bitter, and a fresh, outdoorsy taste that makes it perfect for sipping out in the backyard on a spring afternoon. Which doesn’t sound like too bad a game plan for this weekend.”
