Who needs humans when you can have human-like robots? Apparently that is the logic that Disneyland is using. According to multiple sources, including the Tribune, everyone’s favorite resort has filed a patent application for a “soft body robot that can safely interact with young people.”
I don’t know…it sounds kind of creepy. I don’t particularly like humans in costumes, but isn’t the appeal of them that they can read the situation and react accordingly? Can a soft body robot do that? And if it can, doesn’t that mean that they are poised to turn on us and take over the world?
In fact, the patent document says, “It has proven difficult to provide wholly safe interactions between humans and robots simply by operating these humanoid and other robots with controlled movements.”
There is no time-frame on the robot takeover currently. I’m not trying to be a Negative Nancy, but I don’t think I like this. What about you?
