I didn’t know him, but I am over here bawling. According to the Davis Police department, Cane made many public appearances and loved the attention he got as a police dog. He retired after 6 years on the job and lived with his handler, Officer Lee Hatfield, for the last two years as a furry family member.
Unfortunately, Cane was diagnosed with a heart condition but with care from the Animal Wellness Center and the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital he was able to live comfortably with Officer Hatfield, according to The Sacramento Bee.
Officer Hatfield said the following about his companion:
“Hurricane was the type of dog that could make any handler look good. He was passionate about working but also social and friendly. He loved being the center of attention and knew how to work a crowd.”
