File this under “Woulda been nice to know at the time!”
A few hours after Jason Aldean called the show this week, we saw a news release that said he was going to part of a duets album from Tracy Lawrence, which definitely would’ve been good to know, based on his answer to our first question, what’s the first concert you ever used your own money to attend….
“Probably a Tracy Lawrence show”, he told us. “I was a big Tracy Lawrence fan and I remember he came to a little place about 45 minutes from Macon, where I’m from, and that was the first time I remember campin’ out, gettin’ some tickets and doin’ that whole deal.”
But that’s the way it goes sometimes. It was still a fun chat, with Jason talking about his new album, seeing the Braves play, and, oh, Pat asking him about the scent of the “Jason Aldean Laid Back Candle” available on his website….
“Um, I’ll be honest with ya. I’ve never smelled that candle in my life!” He laughed. “I don’t know what it smells like. Probably beer and whiskey, I don’t know.”
Jason’s new tour just kicked off (he plays Wheatland Sept 29th and tickets are on sale now through LiveNation.com) but even as he does that, he’s still working on his next album. He’s already got four songs recorded and told us he is in “song listening mode” right now, meaning once they find a handful of new songs they like, they’ll record them.
“When you got four or five songs, you go in…and knock those out. So we did that already with one session…(and) that’s where we’re kinda at right now. I wouldn’t say we’re close to finishing it, but we’re kinda in the middle of it right now.”
Jason did note that there will probably a single from the new album released sometime this summer.
So what is his approach to a new album–how does he strive to keep his music fresh, without alienating longtime fans…? And, completely unrelated to that, can he answer five quick questions for us, including the biggest party he ever (or maybe never…) had?
