10-Year-Old Survives Alligator Attack By Prying Open Its Mouth [Photo]

Fun fact about alligators;  their jaw muscles are extremely powerful when it comes to closing their mouths, but not so much when it comes to opening them.

CBS reports that the little girl was at a park in Orange County Florida wading in water less than 3 feet deep when she was attacked by the gator. The gator bit down on her leg and she first tried to punch it. When that didn’t work, she pulled down on it’s bottom jaw.

I wonder if she knew about the jaw muscles, or just did what she could in the situation. Either way, she was able to free herself and authorities were able to catch the alligator. This was no small gator either—it measured almost NINE FEET LONG.

Smart thinking by this little lady!
