Why can’t something like this happen to me? 30 years ago, a woman in West London found a ring in a “car-boot sale” for 13 pounds. She thought it was costume jewelry and wore it regularly.
Turns out the large stone set on the ring is actually a 26-carat cushion-shaped white diamond from the 19th Century! She has decided to auction off the gem in July, and it’s expected to go for 350,000 pounds. Or half a million. Maybe more!
“They’d been to quite a few car-boot sales over the years. But they don’t have any history of collecting antiques and they don’t have any history of collecting diamonds. This is a one-off windfall, an amazing find,” the Sotheby’s London head of jewelry Jessica Wyndham told the BBC. “It’s a life-changing amount of money.”
The woman wants to remain anonymous, and I don’t blame her. Let’s not forget what happened to Kim Kardashian. But could you imagine having a hidden treasure on you all those years? That’s too cool!
