Alcohol Banned Along American River And Parks During Summer Holidays

In an attempt to make the river safer after high levels and dangerous conditions, Sacramento county has banned all alcohol along the shoreline of the American River between Hazel and Watt avenues during major summer holidays.

The ban officially started this past weekend and is slated to continue through the summer. Open or closed, if you bring alcohol into the areas where it is banned, you can receive a citation. A first offense could cost about $50, and according to KCRA, 15 citations were issued over Memorial Day weekend.

Additionally, alcohol is permanently banned at the following locations:

  • The bluffs located near Old Fair Oaks Bridge
  • The El Manto river access point
  • Sarah Court river access
  • Paradise Beach recreation area
  • Certain locations within Discovery Park

Stay safe and follow the rules!
