Sacramento Man The 1st To Climb Yosemite’s El Capitan Sans Safety Gear

As someone who semi-frequently climbs 10-B’s at Pipeworks, this makes my tummy feel all kinds of nauseous.

But, 31-year-old Alex Honnold has apparently dreamed about climbing all 3,000 feet of El Capitan without any safety gear for eight years.

I don’t think I have thought about doing anything for 8 years. KCRA says that Alex called AP after the climb and said:

“I was pretty much elated, I was probably the happiest I’ve ever been. It’s something that I thought about for so long and dreamed about and worked so hard for. I mean, it’s pretty satisfying.”

The climb only took hours and will be featured in an upcoming National Geographic documentary.
