You know when you’re sitting in the park while your kids play or having a laid back picnic, and you think to yourself, I really need to be on my phone right now but there is no WiFi in this area of nature? Well, soon that will be a thing of the past!
According to Sac Bee, “the City Council unanimously approved a contract with Verizon on Tuesday that allows the telecom giant to place small cell towers on 101 utility poles – an agreement that will cost the city an estimated $2 million in potential lease payments over the next 10 years.”
In return for that, Verizon will set up free WiFi in Land Park, McKinley park and 25 other parks yet to be announced.
I don’t know, I loves me some WiFi so I don’t go over and get data fees, but I also kind of feel like parks and outdoor spaces should be where we get off of our phones. But then, this could also be helpful for those without access to the internet. I’m torn.
Also, when Pawnee got free WiFi, everyone got datamined and drones came and delivered packages to undocumented babies.
