Brantley Gilbert is nobody’s 98 pound weakling. He’s been known to travel with brass knuckles and fly private so he can pack a weapon (he’s a licensed gun owner). But Brantley says the toughest dude he’s ever met is Tim McGraw.
“I’m terrified of that sumbitch!” Brantley tells Sounds Like Nashville.
See, Gilbert toured with Tim a few years ago, when McGraw was first getting into hardcore cross-fit. That’s the fitness regimen that requires flipping truck tires, swinging sledgehammers and other unconventional muscular mayhem.
Brantley said “I’d go out there and work out with him for like 30 minutes and Tim would be out there for eight hours! I used to have nightmares of him knocking on my bus and telling me it’s time to work out.”
Brantley told us a few years ago during an in-studio visit that part of the reason it was tough to keep up with Tim was because, at least at that time, Brantley was a smoker. He said he was pretty good at keeping up with Tim on lifting stuff but anything cardio kicked his butt.
“If you cut him,” Brantley concludes about McGraw, who is playing Golden 1 Center Friday night with wife Faith Hill, “he’ll bleed chrome like dude in the Terminator. I ain’t never seen nothin’ like that in my life”.
If you’re coming to the concert, be sure to stop by early at Malt and Mash (starting at 4) Irish Pub for a chance to win a meet and greet with Tim and Faith. No workout necessary.
