Small Homes To Tackle Homelessness In Sacramento

With a growing homeless population in Sacramento, city counselors are trying to come up with potential solutions including building small-home communities. City Councilman Steve Hansen believes that these communities could be a big step in the right direction, stating in an interview with CBS:

“The tiny homes that we are talking about is part of this campus community. They should be pretty easy. We can have them pre-fabricated working with nonprofit partners.”

As an example of this idea’s success, Hansen points to a tiny-home community that has existed since 1997, Quinn Cottages. Carolin Adams, a resident of Quinn Cottages, which is run by Cottage Housing, Inc. and Mercy Housing California, vouches for the more widespread implementation of these small communities in Sacramento:

“Once you find your own space where you can go in and close the door and be at peace with yourself that helps mentally and emotionally it helps a whole lot.”
