Woman Awarded $417 Million After Arguing Talcum Powder Caused Cancer

Eva Echeverria has been awarded the largest sum to date in an ongoing series of lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson. The lawsuits claim that the company’s talcum powder has potential cancer risks that were not communicated to consumers.

Echeverria has used the baby powder since the 1950’s for feminine hygiene and is currently in the hospital being treated for ovarian cancer. Her lawyer told the press that she “really didn’t want sympathy,” he added. “She just wanted to get a message out to help these other women,” according to KCRA.

Apparently Johnson & Johnson has known about the potential risks for decades, but has failed to properly communicate them to the masses. Other recent awards have ranged from $55 million to $110.5 million, although some cases have been dismissed.
