As we all continue to process last week’s shocking news of Troy Gentry’s death in a helicopter crash, the Grand Ol’ Opry has announced it will live stream his memorial service today, Sept. 14.
And this week, more details about the crash are coming out, including eyewitness accounts who say Gentry was not riding in the helicopter to get a concert later that night–as had previously been reported– but that it was merely a “joy ride”–sources say he was asked minutes before the flight by the helicopter pilot if he wanted to go up. After a few minutes in the air, the pilot radioed that he was having mechanical issues and was trying to hover long enough for emergency personnel to arrive at the airport. The pilot was also killed in the crash and the FAA is investigating what caused the malfunction.
Gentry leaves behind a wife and two children and thousands of saddened fans. To watch the live stream this morning starting at 9am PST, go to opry.com/troy-gentry or just click here
