In just five short years, the number of STDs in California rose by 40 percent. With over 250,000 reported cases, 2016 is on record in California as the year with the most STDs.
To be clear, that is not a record you want to have.
According to CBS 13, 198,503 cases of chlamydia were reports, 64,677 of gonorrhea and 11,222 of early syphilis.
“This is the third year in a row that we have seen increases in chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis,” said CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith
Additionally, chlamydia and gonorrhea cases were highest among people under 30.
