The wildfires have claimed thousands of homes and businesses, thousands of acres of land and as of right now 17 lives. Two of the people who lost their lives were 100-year-old Charles Rippey and his 98-year-old wife, Sara.
Charles’ son said that his father appeared to be making his way to Sara’s room when he was overcome by the smoke and flames, according to KCRA.
“My father certainly wouldn’t have left her,” his other son, Mike, said.
The couple moved to Northern California from Wisconsin, where they met in grade school. The only remnants left in the house that could be made out were metal and porcelain.
